Project Overview for Karratha

MS-LNG Project Powers West Kimberley Towns
Western Australia’s (WA’s) Premier Alan Carpenter opened the Broome Power Station on April 14, marking the completion of the $650 million West Kimberley Power Project, which encompasses a 66,000-metric-tpy LNG project in Karratha, WA. The Karratha LNG project sources its gas from Dampier-to-Bunbury gas pipeline, then utilizes the rubber-tire pipeline to transport the LNG to various power projects that supply West Kimberley towns.
“Four out of the five power plants that are part of the West Kimberley Power Project initiative will use LNG as feedstock, marking the first time LNG has been used for power generation in WA,” said Carpenter.
Horizon Power entered into a 20-year agreement with Energy Developments Ltd. (EDL) to build and operate the new-natural-gas-fired power stations. EDL owns and operates the Karratha LNG project, which recently expanded LNG production to 200 tpd of LNG in an effort to meet the growing baseload power demand in the region.
